Located on the Mughwango Hill in Meru National park, Elsa’s Kopje enjoys breathtaking views over swamps and plains to the foothills of Mount Kenya. Elsa’s Kopje was named after Elsa, the lioness who was made famous by George and Joy Adamson in the movie ‘Born Free’. Elsa’s Kopje is almost invisible to the eye as it blends into the rocky crags and hillside, built close to the site of George Adamson’s original camp where Elsa was re–habituated to the wild.
The eight thatched stone cottages are the ultimate rooms with views, uniquely designed and crafted from the natural features of the rocky hillside. Each cottage has an en–suite bathroom and from the private veranda a stunning 270–degree view can be enjoyed. The camp boasts an open bar, a lounge and a dining area with an infinity pool overlooking the Meru plains.
On game drives and guided nature walks, guests of Elsa’s Kopje virtually have the Park to themselves. Guests may also like to fish or raft at the nearby Tana River. Back at Elsa’s Kopje, guests can enjoy sundowners at dusk or swim in the pool formed from a natural cleft in the rocks.
