Situated in the heart of Cuzco, in southern Peru, is the 16th–century Hotel Monasterio, originally built in 1592 as a monastery. Since then converted into a luxurious colonial house, Hotel Monasterio is an ideal base from which to discover Cuzco and the ancient ruins at Machu Picchu, which can be reached via a spectacular three–hour train journey.

The hotel features 126 rooms and suites, all varying in size as the original architecture and design of the Monasterio has not been significantly altered. Decorated to combine the best of modern and traditional Spanish colonial style, most rooms have charming views of the city and an oxygen supplementation system to counteract the altitude sickness.
