The Okahirongo River camp consists of five luxurious wooden and canvas tents and one family suite which are built on a sweeping ridge. Each offer indoor and outdoor showers and large terraces which hang over the raging Kunene River below.
With the majestic pink mountains of Angola towering on one side of the river, on the Namibian side vast stretches of golden grasslands with springbok grazing and the odd Himba hut, gives way to dramatic red sand dunes with unforgettable sundowner spots. Activities include exploring the region in the open Landrover, fishing, both conventional and fly, looking for crocodiles or simply enjoying the cruise along the river on the lodge’s boat. Picnic on the Angolan border, hike along the river, visit the local Himba villages or relax by the infinity pool taking in the magical beauty of it all.
As tourism is new to this area due to its remoteness, visiting the Himba villages is unique in its authenticity and meeting the guests is as much of a new experience for the Himba’s and it is for the guests. The River Camp is a luxury eco-experience with the entire camp being run on 24-hour electricity from solar power and organic food being grown on the property.
