Abu Camp
Few bush camps have achieved such world–wide acclaim as Abu Camp offering the unique experience of riding trained African elephants amid the natural beauty and wildlife of the Okavango Delta. Randall Moore pioneered Africa’s first elephant back safaris some 20 years ago. He named the camp after the late Abu, the star of numerous feature films and television commercials.
The camp boasts six Afro–Bedouin family tents, all with en–suite bathrooms and distinctive furnishings, many of them antique, imparting an air of opulence amid the bush setting. Guests are invited to become part of the elephant herd during their stay and may watch them being fed in the evenings, enjoy the frolics of the babies and accompanying them on foot or, when the seasonal flood is up, in the mokoros. The backs of elephants are a natural way to view the herds of game which accept the presence of the world’s largest land mammal in their midst and giving the riders a high–level view of the panorama. Elephants enjoy wading through the shallow lagoons and pools, reaching many places inaccessible even to the most rugged of overland vehicles.
