Elephant Back Safaris are based at Abu Camp on the western side of the Okavango Delta and are set in an amazing half a million acres of private concession.

Guests are accommodation in luxurious, custom–designed tents which are raised on teak decking and overlook a beautiful lagoon. All the tents are richly and individually furnished and boast a luxury ensuite bathroom complete with copper or porcelain bath tubs and showers. The sumptuous dining, bar and relaxation area is set on tiered teak decking sculpted around specimens of the magnificent giant trees of the Okavango.

On safari, guests are seated in large paddle saddles, which are mounted behind experienced and knowledgeable elephant–handlers. The elephant back safaris offer the possibility to come very close to other game, which is unconcerned by the approach of the elephant herd of which guests are a privileged part.

The Abu camp is named after Randall Moore’s legendary elephant ‘Abu’, the star of many motion pictures. Abu is an Arabic word meaning ‘everything to do with elephants’.
