The Wicket Man

The ancestry of croquet can be traced at least to the 14th century. Its traditional version of semicircular or rectangular wickets has been changed into a new image and design. We introduce the Wicket Man — a collection of playful wickets representing baseball players and golfers. Inspired by an original wicket created in 1910, this impeccable heirloom–quality croquet set combines art and sport. Each set is hand–painted and signed by the artist who uses only the finest materials and exact measurements. A complete set includes nine green or red golfer ductile cast–iron wickets, four Solomon Tuftex mallets, four championship balls, one winning and one turning ductile cast iron post in the shape of golf tees, four boundary flags, one smasher, two wicket drills, and four clips. Each one comes with a rule book, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and is securely housed in a beautiful handcrafted cherry wood case. A hand–painted set is priced US$ 9,900.

Personal Blimp
The Airship Alberto, prototype of an entirely new class of personal aircraft, made its historic first flight on October 27, 2006 in Amherst, MA. Designed and built by Skyacht Aircraft, Inc., Alberto is a hot air blimp, or airship, with a patented rigid, but foldable, structural frame. Alberto is named after the famed aviation pioneer Alberto Santos–Dumont who flew the first practical blimps in the early 1900’s. Unlike conventional blimps which use costly helium, the Personal Blimp is filled with hot air (generated by an on–board propane burner) which makes it easier to control and allows the blimp to be deflated between flights. The aircraft is not for sale yet but will likely be priced between US$100,000 and US$200,000 — depending upon configuration. The company sees other areas of application in forest canopy research, wetlands management, eco–tourism, aerial photography, and film–making.
