Castilla Termal Monasterio de Valbuena, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, is located in the best-preserved 12th century Cistercian monastery in Europe in the town of San Bernardo, Valladolid.
This extraordinary luxury spa hotel comprises 79 rooms, combining original features such as exposed stone walls and high arches, complemented by vintage furnishings. They are committed to sustainability throughout the property; the hotel resides in the most beautiful historical building and they have respected the original architecture and are committed to preserving it.
The menus are designed with consideration for how own produce can be used or sourced from local suppliers. The hotel features its own own organic kitchen garden and has the expertise and knowledge from Michelin-starred Chef Miguel Angel de la Cruz as he oversees the planting, growing and nurturing. The hotel produces their own Ribera wine, Converso, an internationally awarded and limited-production Crianza red wine which can be tasted at The Monks Cellar, the place where all began almost 900 years ago, when the Cistercian monks reached the area and started the tradition in the Duero valley. An impeccable collection of serious red wines from the region can be tasted in the hotel’s cellar as well.
The 5-star Valbuena Spa is one of only three Clarins Spa’s with thermal waters. There are 16 treatment rooms, thermal pools, Jacuzzis, bubble seats and water jets, as well as a heated outdoor pool with seating area for lazy days or after treatment relaxation. Not to be missed in the wellness area: the exquisite Capilla de San Pedro Contrast Circuit, a replica of the original chapel of the monastery’s church, were to indulge oneself by getting the best from the healing powers of the natural spring waters.
The hotel is home to the Foundation, Edades del Hombre, which from its workshop on-site promotes, restores, and takes care of ancient sacred art. Guests can have exclusive access.
