Chena Huts by UGA Escapes, a real wonder of nature on the beautiful coast of Sri Lanka

Between the wildlife-packed Yala National Park and the vastness of the Indian Ocean, lies Chena Huts, a collection of 18 thatched domes.

Below each of the cleverly camouflaged roofs is a sensational suite, decked out in glossy hardwoods, with a wicker day bed, deep soaking tub and private plunge pool on a shaded deck.

The domes are spread across seven acres of protected jungle, bordered on one side by a sandy beach frequented by frolicking elephants and nesting sea turtles, and on another by a saltwater lagoon where ibis, flamingos and storks congregate regularly.

Twice daily game drives and all meals are included. In between safaris the emerald-tiled pool with a bar hidden behind a waterfall is one of the best spots to relax. Come evening the ocean-facing restaurant oozes maritime charm with its hurricane lamps, models of surrounding reefs and authentic surf sounds, but for a truly unique treat, ask to dine on the beach, by the light of a bonfire.
