Grand Hotel et Des Palmes - Luxury, inspired by timeless heritage

Originally built as the private residence of the English merchant Sir Ben Ingham, the Grand Hotel et Des Palmes has spent nearly two centuries absorbing Palermo: its light, its contradictions, its quiet grandeur. Transformed in 1874 into the city's most fashionable address, it was shaped by the hand of Ernesto Basile, whose Art Nouveau vision still breathes through every stained-glass window, every gilded arch, every corner of the legendary Winter Garden.

Richard Wagner composed the final act of Parsifal within these walls. The piano he received from Franz Liszt still stands in the suite that bears his name.

Today, 105 rooms and suites carry that weight lightly, where century-old stucco meets contemporary comfort. The Des Palmes Neobistrot reinterprets Sicilian tradition with a modern hand; the Sensus Mixology Bar pours over 100 labels of gin in what was once a ballroom; the Ouverture Terrace looks out over the rooftops of Palermo's historic centre as if the city were a private view.

Some hotels are designed. The Grand Hotel et Des Palmes was simply inherited - by the city, by history, by every guest who has ever passed through its doors.
