Monument Hotel

Monument Hotel, a proud edifice in a Neo-Gothic masterpiece in Barcelona

The city of Barcelona is a crazy quilt of modern and ancient, with narrow flagstone lanes that wander in mazes bumping into broad avenues filled with buses and trolleys. Laid out in along the Mediterranean Sea in a hilly region, the city is cantered on a busy harbour, founded in the era of the Romans. This is the Gothic Quarter, in sight of the sea and crowded into medieval streets too small for cars to move through. Just beyond the Gothic Quarter city planners created a series of grand plazas forming a line running on the avenue called the Gran Via De Les Corts Catalanes, from the northeast to the southwest. In the northern end, the Plaça De La Glories Catalanes became fairly industrial, while at the southern end, the Plaça d’Espanya became surrounded by incredibly beautiful buildings, while serving as an entryway to the beloved fountains, castles, and gardens of Mont Juic Park. In the centre of the Gran Via, there was an intersection that rose to become the heart of commerce for the entire city, the Passeig Del Gracia. In the middle of the length of the Passeig, you can find the Monument Hotel, a grand luxury hotel filled with strikingly beautiful architectural and interior designs.

The hotel dominates the front of the building known as the Batllo House, one of several buildings commissioned by the industrialist Enric Batllo in 1895. Batllo gave the design of this building to an architect inspired by neo-Gothic styles, Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas, and Monument Hotel is proud to stand as a grand and successful example of this style in a city filled with exciting architecture – Batllo’s name also is on the Casa Batllo, a work by Barcelona’s most inventive and popular architect, Antoni Gaudi. Monument Hotel also has benefited from recent restoration work, and now features a modern wellness centre and spa, a large fitness room, and an atelier florist. The hotel will also be glad to arrange bespoke services of all kinds for all its guests, under the auspices of its Guest Services Programme.
