Morukuru Family Madikwe

Reconnect with those you love at Morukuru Family Madikwe

There are few things more precious than a sense of belonging. Experiencing a deep connection to another, and to a place. This is what struck Ed and Anka Zeeman when they first explored the vast 75000-hectare Madikwe Game Reserve and decided to procure their own tract of virgin bush adjoining Madikwe. Alone in the untrammeled African wilderness, they naturally slowed their pace, appreciating the primal nature of life and sharing the humbling expanse of wild Africa with friends and family. On the banks of the Marico River, the Zeeman’s built their first decadent, ultra-luxurious private retreat, with two huge en-suite bedrooms and a choice of shared spaces. They stocked what later came to be known as the Morukuru Owner’s House with every luxury – a superb wine cellar, excellent entertainment system, fabulous kitchen, and a handpicked team of eight staff. Within strolling distance but completely private, they then built Morukuru River House, three-bedroom home with the same level of luxury, superb indoor-outdoor flow, and a relaxing backtrack of cascading river to coax guests into a permanent state of bliss. With no scheduled times for game drives, no rules or expectations, Morukuru Family soon became known as one of the most relaxing safari destinations on the continent.

It was also the first time the luxuries and decadent comforts of a 5-star lodge were combined with the privacy and space of a home. Being alternately pampered and awed by the African landscape and close-up encounters with big cats, wild dog, elephant, rhino. Unable to meet the inevitable demand, Morukuru Farm House was added: a five-suite sprawling homestead located on the other edge of the Morukuru Family private concession inside Madikwe. Surrounded by luscious green lawns and a huge sparkling pool, Farm House is set within a 100-hectare fenced-in area so guests can play and roam at will and have the freedom to explore the bush amidst plains game.

These days each of the three houses offer 8-10 staff and all meals, drinks, and activities are included. Guests at Morukuru Family Madikwe have total freedom to decide when they would like to go on game-drive, thanks to their private vehicle with guide + tracker. Meals can be taken at any time too, and their private chef will prepare whatever the guests prefer, be it at the house, or in the bush. Thanks to the exclusive-use concept of the three houses, children of all ages are welcome too and they can even join on game-drives. In short, Morukuru Family offers the most exclusive experiences in some of Africa’s most exciting places. Providing those precious spaces in which to reconnect with who you are and those you love.
