Battle of the ages at Les Voiles de St. Tropez
In 1981 a couple of Americans with a racing Swan were hanging around St. Tropez. After competing in a number of local regattas they got to know a few people in the area. One day the owner of the yacht was talking of his recent successes when a twelve metre Swan came in to port. Asked if he could beat her, he replied “sure, why not, if she accepts the challenge.”
This is how by pure coincidence the idea behind the regatta now named Les Voiles de St. Tropez was born.
Taking place each year at the end of September, Les Voiles de St. Tropez attracts sailors and yachts from all corners of the globe. The regatta gathers together the most extraordinary modern sailing boats alongside some of the most beautiful and historic yachts in the world. The Les Voiles de St. Tropez is a living showcase for maritime history, where old and new take to the seas and do exactly what they were built for, harness the power of the wind.
Watching yachts, some with almost one hundred years in age difference, sailing side by side is truly in incredible sight to behold.
