Atlantic Suites Camps Bay, excitement at the foot of the Table Mountain
At the southern tip of Africa, the nation of South Africa straddles two oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian. There the city of Cape Town stands a few miles north of the rugged southernmost point of the continent, the Cape of Good Hope, with its beautiful headlands. All along the coast where Cape Town’s excellent harbor resides, mountains reach out ragged peaks, and the international landmark, Table Mountain, presides above the city. At the very foot of Table Mountain there is a small and secluded bay, where the waves of the Atlantic gently wash the creamy sands of Camps Bay Beach, named for an early Dutch settler of the region, Frederick Von Kamptz. About halfway up the foothills of Table Mountain, with a view of the ocean and beach and surrounding peaks that stretch beneath a blue African sky, is the beautiful boutique hotel, the Atlantic Suites Camps Bay.
Atlantic Suites Camps Bay is a hillside mansion clad in bright beige, standing three stories tall, and offering a five-minute walk to the beach and a ten-minute drive to the heart of Cape Town. Operated by Ian and Sally Merrington since 2001, Atlantic Suites is a small operation with a powerful commitment to providing the ultimate in luxury furnishings to its clientele. Perfect for honeymoons, situated in a natural amphitheatre, and offering bespoke tours of the entire region, Atlantic Suites Camps Bay is one of the most heralded five-star hotels and resorts in Cape Town, a city between two oceans.
A Mansion Made for Sky, Sea and Mountains
The peak of Table Mountain is surrounded by a series of equally spectacular summits called the Twelve Apostles, and in the direction of downtown, Lion’s Head Mountain rises to an isolated splendor as well. These mounts and the ocean below inspire the names of Atlantic’s four individually designed and decorated suites, each with unique and nonpareil furnishings, as well as customized views of the land and sea, created by Atlantic’s own architect, Ben Kotlowitz. The Lion’s Head Suite offers the most northerly view of the area from the lower level. Alongside of it, the Twelve Apostles Suite is slightly roomier than the rest, at 80 square meters, and has an excellent southerly view of the Twelve Apostles. On the upper floor of the house, the Atlantic and the Atlantique Suites are roughly equal in size, and both feature views of the Seaboard with slightly greater horizons. The estate also features an excellent infinity pool, about twelve meters in length and temperature controlled. Your concierge will provide welcoming trays, and high tea is served by arrangement, while mini-bars are kept fully stocked. The four suites can serve a total of eight guests.
Exploring Cape Town in Bespoke Comfort
During your stay at Atlantic Suites, you will find the entire Atlantic Seaboard open to exploration. The staff will be pleased to arrange bespoke tours of the region, and your concierge will be able to provide you with a list of excellent restaurants in the area for your dining options. Complementary full English breakfasts will be served as you head out to explore Table Mountain, the Victoria and Albert Waterfront at downtown Cape Town, and the many wineries and vineyards of the region. Robben Island, the prison that confined Nelson Mandela for eighteen years is now a museum just off the harbor, and the Table Mountain Nature Reserve can be an amazing site when the unique fynbos, the flowered grasses found only in South Africa, are in bloom. Atlantic Suites will welcome you back to your guestrooms with amazing views of the sunsets in the ocean, where you can enjoy your luxury appointments and rest contentedly at the foot of Table Mountain.
