Look beyond the ordinary at &Beyond Mnemba Island

Off the coast of Zanzibar, the tropical island paradise that is Mnemba Island transforms life’s simplest pleasures into a guest’s most treasured memories. Here, white sandy beaches, clear ocean water and casuarina pine forests are the backdrop for a romantic and relaxing stay.

A Private Hideaway

Guests literally have the beach at their doorstep while staying at &Beyond Mnemba Island. The palm-frond guest bandas are furnished with soft, natural fabrics and traditional woodcarvings so as not to take away from the striking scenery. Large windows and open air spaces encourage guests to take in the ever-changing skyline.

With only ten guest bandas, there are a maximum of twenty guests on &Beyond Mnemba Island at any given time. This means that visitors never have to worry about a crowded beach or inattentive staff. In fact, a private butler awaits guests at each banda. The only possible intruders on this exclusive island are the bountiful, beautiful wild animals that roam the pristine forest.

Due to the low number of guests, there are no restaurants on the island. Rather, those who stay here enjoy private dining for every meal. At a pre-arranged time each morning, the cheerful staff of &Beyond Mnemba Island knocks on the banda door to serve guests tea and coffee, followed by a large selection of breakfast options. Later, a light and refreshing lunch is served in a cool, shaded location. Finally, after a long day of adventure or relaxation, guests can enjoy a sunset or starlight diner on the beach. Surrounded by candles, this romantic meal is the perfect ending to the perfect day.

Experience the Wild Side of Life

There is a large amount of biodiversity on Mnemba Island. In addition to the tropical vegetation, this area is home to many animals that guests had never before seen in real life. One such creature is the tiny suni antelope, whose cute oversized eyes are endearing to anyone who makes contact with them. Guests are virtually guaranteed to see a suni antelope; they roam the forests in large numbers. Highly endangered Ader’s duiker have also been recently introduced to the island. Seeing this small creature in the wild is a rare sight indeed, but &Beyond Mnemba Island guests can now witness them during a short nature walk. Another endangered visitor on the island is the green turtle, which breed and lay eggs on the soft sandy beaches of Mnemba. The presence of these turtles also support the lives of many crab and bird species on the island.

Exploring the Indian Ocean provides even more opportunities to observe remarkable wild animals. Humpback whales, sharks, and dolphins can be observed in the ocean depths. Large fish such as mackerel, barracuda, and martin are also present. The most colourful sea creatures, though, are the tropical reef dwelling fish. There are coral reefs so close to the island that a boat ride isn’t even required to reach them. Snorkeling is wonderful at Mnemba, as is scuba diving. After completing the scuba training offered by &Beyond Mnemba Island, guests can go on exciting underwater adventures.
