Sublime Comporta, travel to Magellan’s homeland and relax on Portugal’s best beaches
Nestled in the lush, green Portuguese countryside, the village of Comportais is located a mere one hour and fifteen minute drive from Lisbon. The traditional village is composed of rice fields, vineyards, as well as pine forests and a whole 40km long, pristine beach. The region remains one of Portugal’s top attractions.
The region’s jewel, however, is Sublime Comporta, a premium Country House Retreat that fuses the beautiful local environment with a deep, almost other-worldly experience. Sublime Comporta is a simpler place, where one can experience a simpler, traditional lifestyle, while still enjoying the enmities and elegance of modern life.
An exclusive destination, Sublime Comporta has a total of 14 suites, five of which are located in the main building, with the other nine in a separate structure close by. All the rooms are open floor, well lit and quite sizeable, featuring wide windows with a great view of the surrounding countryside. The simple, white-gray color palette creates a comforting atmosphere that will go a long way towards helping you relax.
Experience Traditional Portuguese Cuisine
The menu at the house restaurant combine a contemporary presentation with old fashioned flavours. Every night, the chefs at Sublime Comporta prepare different dishes with completely natural and unprocessed ingredients, such as fish freshly from the Atlantic or the organic vegetables that are grown in Sublime Comporta’s own gardens.
Many of the other ingredients are also grown locally, from the white rice grown on local plantations to the vineyards with a long standing tradition. The wine is always preserved at the perfect temperature for consumption. The wine cellar has a wide selection in stock, everything from local Portuguese vintages to the more traditional French Champagnes.
Luncheon is served either on the balcony or inside the restaurant, as per your preference. The restaurant is also open to external guests.
A bar is also open every day until late nightfall. A wide variety of gin tonics and cocktails are available as well as the house special that is made with sparkling wine and guava juice.
Learn What ”Fiesta” Really Means
You may have heard this term thrown around a lot before in Latin regions, but you will truly understand the term after a relaxing afternoon in one of Sublime Comporta’s spas and indoor swimming pools.
If you prefer the open skies, then the pristine white beaches of the Atlantic are only a short walk to the east of our compound. Strolling along wooden boardwalks, lounging under palm umbrellas to the sparkle of the Atlantic, it would be difficult to find a more peaceful place.
Immerse Yourself in Local Culture
If you are more interested in the local culture rather than simply resting, you needn’t travel all the way back to Lisbon to find something that piques your interest. Local Portuguese embroideries and miniatures are common throughout the Alcácer villages.
If you’re interested in the region’s local festivals, then the ”Festival do Arroz” (Rice Festival) celebrates the founding of the parish. A traditional market is also open on every second Friday of each month, where you can purchase a variety of souvenirs from the local craftsmen, as well as many local foodstuffs, straight from the farmer’s gardens.
