The Experience

Day 1

Arrive in Cape Town

• Meet and Greet and Cape Town Airport and transfer to the private villa
• Welcome Dinner hosted by Africa Roam.
Day 2

Morning orientation and afternoon at leisure

• You will have a safely briefing today where the staff will explain all kit requirements, assist with any last minute preparations and update you as to the latest weather forecast in Antarctica.
• Your afternoon will be at leisure to explore the V&A Waterfront or if you feel energetic a hike up Lion’s Head.
• This evening you will have an interactive cooking session with a private chef to learn about the local cuisine that the Cape has to offer.
Day 3

Full day Winelands Tour of Stellenbosch

• Idyllically situated in the Cape Winelands, this peaceful country retreat is one of the oldest towns in South Africa. The once sleepy little village was named Franschhoek, meaning ‘French Corner’ as it was founded by French Huguenots. The fertile valley of Franschhoek boasts a rich heritage showcased at the fascinating Huguenot Memorial Museum and the Cape Dutch architecture in much of the village remains remarkably well preserved. The town’s proximity to Cape Town allows for pleasant day trips
during which visitors can explore the area’s many world-class wine estates and impressive range of excellent restaurants or simply browse the quaint, upmarket boutiques strewn along the town’s lovely tree-lined avenues.
• This evening you will have a Guest speaker – Christo Brand, talking about the history of South Africa through reflection of his time spent with Nelson Mandela on Robben Island.
• Dinner will be served at the villa by your private chef.
Day 4

Explore the Cape Peninsula

• The aim for the day is to explore the highlights of the Cape Peninsula. You will take every opportunity to get out of the vehicle to fully experience one of the most unique marine habitats and breathtaking coastlines in the world.
• Enjoy exploring Kalkbay, Simonstown, Boulders Beach to view the African Penguin colony, the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Noordhoek.
• Upon your return to the city you will be able to enjoy the famous and very scenic Chapman’s Peak drive (weather permitting).
• You will return to the villa in the late afternoon.
• Your evening will be at leisure to enjoy one of many of the city’s culinary powerhouses.
Day 5

Depart Cape Town

• You will fly to Antarctica (5 hours) and cross thousands of icebergs as you pass over the Southern Ocean.
During the flight you will cross the polar circle and into 24 hours of continuous daylight. Landing on the specialist ice runway, you will tranfer to the camp and go for a gentle trek around the oasis.
Day 6

Make yourself comfortable at Whichway Camp

• Settle into ‘Whichaway camp’ and do as much or as little as you like each day. Activities range from gentle treks to the incredible ice waves, summiting a nunatak, ice climbing and even abseiling.
Day 7

Discover the Emperor penguin colony

• You will fly 2 hours across Antarctica, providing immense views of the high polar plateau, before landing at the Emperor penguin colony. You will be among the very few who have ever witnessed such a spectacle and be able to see the real life stars of ‘march of the penguins’.
Day 8

Delve into the ice tunnels

• You will explore the ice waves beneath the camp, delving into the series of ice tunnels that are as surreal as they are beautiful. The day ends with a visit to the nearby science base to learn more about their work, followed by a sauna session.
Day 9

Discover the South Pole

• You will leave early in the morning in the DC3 Basler plane. You will fly across stunning mountain ranges before landing at 83 degrees south to refuel. You will have a chance to walk around the high polar plateau before continuing onto the pole.
• At the South Pole itself, you will have plenty of time for photos, a tour around the base and a chance to stamp your passport before camping down for the night.
Day 10

Panoramic views of Antarctica

• After a night spent camping, you will be given a hearty breakfast before boarding the plane once again for the flight back to Whichaway camp. The flight is the perfect chance to really appreciate the immense scale of Antarctica, before your return to our camp for a three-course dinner and champagne to celebrate yout achievement.
Day 11

Abseil a Nunatak Mountain

• This is an easier day with talks from our polar explorer staff about some the lesser known history of Antarctica and their world record-breaking expeditions. Then it’s time for a giant abseil of the nearby nunatak mountain.
Day 12

Wander down the Cliff Path

• The penultimate day at Whichaway exposes you to one of the wonders of the oasis. An adventurous hike along a cliff path exposes guests to sea ice that has been folded by constant pressure from the Southern Ocean. The views from the very edge of the oasis will be unforgettable!
Day 13

Fly back to Cape Town and enjoy your Luxury Villa

• The flight out of Antarctica will be the last your unforgettable Antarctic memories before you delve back into the noise and heat of Africa. You will be transferred to you luxury illa where you will have a chance to relax in a hot bath and reflect on your Antarctic adventure.
Day 14

ANTARCTICA | Whichaway camp
Whichaway camp is totally unique and the perfect base from which to start your adventure. There are state-of-the-art sleeping pods that are heated and designed for two people in each. At just over 6m(20ft) in diameter, they are also spacious, with a writing desk, wash area and toilet. ( For guests travelling separately, the room can be portioned for privacy).

The rest of the camp comprises a shower pod, kitchen and three centralised pods that make up the reception, lounge and dining room. While the exterior is made from cutting edge materials, the interior has an old-world flee with rich textures.
